“I COULDN'T POSSIBLY live long enough to make real every idea i have floating around in my mind.
Jewellery by Alex Hildreth
I started selling my jewellery online in 2016, but as I think about it I have always made jewellery, i’ve always made things, full stop!
I am a self taught jeweller, slowly developing my skills through books, YouTube videos and plenty of trial and error. I originally made leather jewellery with sea glass, coins, beads, pebbles and shells alongside mum before I began the journey into finding my own style.
Gemstones, found crystals, hag stones, shells, animal bones, seeds, leaves, found objects, antique trinkets and metal detecting finds, I made hordes of simple, popular copper folk jewellery from all the many things I treasured! Eventually, I began using silver, setting our finds using more traditional techniques, honing my skills as a craftswoman.
In 2018 I tried sand casting for the first time and quickly fell in love. It was a kit I bought online for mum originally (curiosity got the better of me) Casting finds, natural objects and carving my own designs to immortalise in silver. This is the basis of much of my work today, taking what that inspires me, moves me, excites me and translating that into wearable, coverable, magical treasures and charms.
