Snake Stone necklace in Sterling Silver

£100.00

*Made to order item

One of a kind Sterling silver ‘snake stone’ pendant. Hand carved and sand cast in our studio, it is based on ancient folklore from Whitby in the north east of England. Legend has it, over 900 years ago St Hilda, founder and abbess of the monetary at Whitby, North Yorkshire (then Northumbria) banished all snakes from the land by turning them to stone and casting them off the cliff tops. Back then, in cultures across the world, it was thought ammonite fossils were coiled stone snakes, hence why they were know as 'snake stones'. Later, (in the 18th & 19th centuries) local fossilists and forgers would carve snake heads into the fossils to sell to tourists and collectors as rare 'snake stone' specimens, complete with their 'heads’.

This piece has been assayed and hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office with a traditional full Scottish/UK hallmark for 925 Sterling silver. It is stamped with Alex's unique makers mark which is recorded in the Edinburgh Assay Office historic hallmarking archive.

Please refer to photos for size comparison of pendant. Made-to-order items take from 3-6 weeks to prosess.

US and EU CUSTOMERS

Due to tariffs imposed by the US government in 2025, a 10% tariff fee will automatically be added to your postage costs at checkout. For EU customers, unfortunately due to new EU law passed in 2024 we are unable to sell to countries within the European Union. This new law has made it almost impossible for small businesses like ours to sell to the EU due to strict requirements and cost. We are so very sorry about this.
